Tips For Success With Your Invisalign®

Invisalign Logo - A Clear Alternative to Braces

Invisalign® is an alternative option for those that want to achieve straight teeth without getting traditional metal braces. These aligners are an increasingly popular alternative and have become popular for how subtle it looks while you are straightening your teeth. In fact, Invisalign® is so subtle that others may not even notice them. It is a discreet option worth looking into.

To make your Invisalign® experience better, Dental Partners of Boston offers these 5 easy tips that will help you make the best of your invisible aligners.

1. Brush After Every Meal & Floss Daily:

We ask that you wear your Invisalign® for 22 hours a day. However, don’t replace them immediately after a meal, unless you’ve already brushed. If you don’t brush, food stuck in your teeth can distort the shape of your trays, eventually leading to poorly aligned teeth. Also, brushing is another way to keep your mouth and breath clean. Flossing every day is more important than ever with the Invisalign® aligners. Clean in between your teeth every day with floss.

2. Cut Back On Coffee & Tea

Your Invisalign® trays will be easy for all to see if to drink a lot of coffee and tea while you are wearing them. These drinks can stain aligners, making them visible, taking away one of Invisalign’s great benefits. If you choose Invisalign® because it has a discrete appearance, the last thing you want to do is stain them a dingy yellow.

3. Change Your Aligners On Time & In The Correct Order

If one of our Boston Cosmetic dentists tells you to change your aligner, change it. If we tell you to leave it alone for a few more days, do it. You won’t make your treatment go any faster if you use the trays out of order or put them in when not instructed. In fact, you could do more harm than good.

4. Getting Used To The Change In Feel & Speech

Know that it feels a little weird when first starting to wear your aligners, but you will get used to it. It’s not painful but it is present. You’ll notice the feeling of our aligner less and less. Also when you first put in your aligners you may begin to speak with a little lisp. Don’t worry, this is totally normal. The best way to get rid of it is to not take out the tray but to practice with it. You’ll get used to it quickly.

5. Know How To Care For Your Aligners Properly

The best way to clean your trays is with warm water and antibacterial soap. Invisalign® also has its own products but soap and water should do the trick just fine. Do not use toothpaste to clean your trays as it may scratch them.
